City adds new cardboard recycling dumpster at Douglas County Fairgrounds
To help meet growing demand for cardboard recycling in our community, the City of Lawrence is adding a new cardboard-only dumpster at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, located off Harper St. This new location is free and open to the public.
The City currently maintains cardboard dumpsters at Checkers (2300 Louisiana St.), Hy-Vee (3504 Clinton Pkwy.), and Dillons (4701 West 6th St.)—all of which see regular high use and frequent overflow. By adding a new dumpster at the Fairgrounds, the Solid Waste team hopes to improve access and alleviate congestion at existing sites.
“This is a simple step that helps us make recycling more convenient and keeps our sites cleaner,” said Brandon Spencer, City of Lawrence Solid Waste Supervisor. “We want to thank our residents for continuing to recycle responsibly and for supporting Lawrence’s sustainability goals.”
Cardboard-only dumpsters are available for use by all residents, but it’s important to keep them clean and contamination-free—only cardboard should be placed inside.
